The History Of Replacement Upvc Door Handles
Replacement UPVC Door Handles
Find the perfect handle for your door, whether you're replacing your handles or adding additional security. Upvc handles are simple to install and conform to the 92mm centers required by multipoint locks.
The backplate's fixing centre as well as the keyhole/lever dimensions are the most important measurements. Check these carefully against your existing measurements prior to placing an order.
Lever/Pad
Lever pad handles are made up of a lever on one side, and a paddle-shaped handle on the other. They are designed to be used with key wind locks. However, they can be fitted to multipoint split spindle door locks.
Once you have chosen the appropriate handle for the doors, the finishes will be listed in the drop-down list. Not all styles of handle are available in every finish though and you should always look over the sizes and technical drawings for the particular product you're looking for to ensure that you are getting the correct size and fit.
When selecting a new set of upvc lever pad door handles it is important to ensure that they are in line with the PZ (distance between the spindle of the handle and the centre of the hole in the cylinder) of your existing multipoint locks, as these need to be in line for the doors to remain locked, whether from the inside or the outside. Our handles are designed to fit the majority of standard cylinders, however it is important to double-check before purchasing.
You'll need to remove your existing handles and dismantle the lock case if upgrading to dual spindle handle levers because this will require an additional split cylinder inline. These are available separately, and we provide an entire technical diagram for you to take a look at in the pictures for each product.
It is recommended to loosen the screws holding the door handle you have and then examine the mechanism. If the screws aren't tight enough it is possible to loosen them even more. Then you can remove the spindle from the door handle and replace it with your new upvc handle. Before door handle repair screw the handle into the frame, it is a good idea to make sure it is in the proper position, and you can do this by putting your finger in the gap between the frame of the door and the door handle to ensure that it is level.
Lever/Lever
Lever door handles are with a multi-point lock that utilizes the Euro cylinder and can be found on a majority of double doors made of aluminium, upvc doors and a few wooden doors. They come in two varieties, with the lever inside and a paddle on the outside. Sprung - these have a spring cassette fitted within the backplate to help bring the handle lever into the horizontal position. Non-sprung - they do not have a spring mechanism and will require manual pulled to bring the handle lever back to its horizontal position.
To fix the door handle of a lever that is sagging it is necessary to find the hole for access to the detent or pin, which is typically a small round or rectangle shape hole or protruding pin located on one side of the handle base plate. Once you have located it, loosen the set screw with the help of a screwdriver, and then remove it to release the lever to return to the horizontal position.
After the handle is placed horizontally, you can install the screws. Close them to ensure that the handle remains firmly fixed to the base plate. You may want to apply a threadlocking solution to the threads of screws to improve grip and prevent them from loosening over time.
Lever door handles that droop can be caused by various causes. The most frequent cause is that the fixings are too tight and the lever bearing to pull up against the door. It could also be because the levers are not being operated in a straight line and this is causing the latch mechanism preventing it from fully springing back into operation.
The most common reason for spring levers that are not functioning correctly is the spring not being in the right position on the backplate. To determine whether the handle has returned to horizontal, simply operate it.
It is important to repair any door handles that are damaged immediately. This could cause excessive wear on the screws, and the handle might be able to fall off the base plate. You should also tighten any loose screws on a regular basis to prevent them from becoming looser.
Lever/Snib
These upvc door handles are also known as handle sets with a 'Snib' and have a snib button on the top of the lever that you can push down to lock your door if you don't have the fake lock. These handles come with the Fullex lock 68PZ. (68mm between the spindle and lock centre). We also have a selection of door handles 68PZ from manufacturers such as Ferco and Fab & Fix.

You can make your home more modern by changing your door handles regardless of whether you're replacing your existing handles or installing new ones on doors you've constructed. There are many styles of upvc door handle available, including traditional lever on backplate, curved or straight short latches and knob handles with dummy handles for multi point locks, which are ideal for French doors.
Rose door handles are oval or circular versions of lever on backplate handles. These kinds of door handles come with the knob or lever on a backplate which is placed behind the knob or lever and is sometimes referred to as a rosette, although some back plates can be detached to allow for concealed fixing.
The handles are available in various finishes, including coloured and chrome finishes to match your door and other hardware like knobs, hinges and bolts. Some handles come with grub screws to help firmly attach the knob or lever to the spindle. Other handles are supplied with bathroom spindles that can be used to operate bathroom locks. They feature a thumbturn turn as well as a release mechanism, which is ideal for bathroom doors.
Mortise
If your front door's uPVC handle is stuck in the open position, the reason will most likely be with the tubular latch. There may be a few things that can cause this, one of which is the simple lack of lubrication on the latch plate. This can be resolved easily by simply opening the door and spraying lubricant over the handle and lock. Alternatively, it could be that the latch plate has become dislodged from the backplate. This is a more difficult problem that would require an expert.
A multipoint handle is the ideal solution to stuck door handles. These handles are mounted on the door's faceplate and are operated by the thumb turn knob or key which activates a cam that locks the deadbolt. The handles are available in a variety of sizes to suit various kinds of uPVC doors. They also come in an array of attractive finishes that complement the existing hardware. The handles are available via the internet or at the local locksmith. They are easy to install and come with clear directions.
You will need to know the PZ size of your cylinder in order to select the right replacement handle set. This is the distance from the edge of the frame of the door to the central point of the hole for the handle in millimetres. You'll also require the type of lock that is installed on your door, irrespective of whether it is a mortise or hook lock. The easiest way to find the correct handle after you have the measurements is to use the brand filter on the website. This will narrow down the options and you can then choose the appropriate size from there.
A typical set of handles includes the handle unit and a pair of different length screws as well as drill guides and installation instructions. Smarter versions, such as the Igloohome Smart Mortise 2+ include a mortice lock complete with keys. These are more complicated devices and are best suited for professionals who install them or competent DIYers. Some handle sets include many accessories, including weather strips that can be used to improve the appearance of the door.
